About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Newark, NJ, Fornos of Spain is an exquisite Spanish restaurant that invites diners on an authentic culinary journey through Spain’s rich and diverse flavors. From the moment you step through its doors at 47 Ferry Street, you are greeted by an inviting ambiance that perfectly balances warmth with sophistication, enhanced by the charming sounds of flamenco music that set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience.

The cuisine at Fornos of Spain is a celebration of traditional Spanish and Portuguese dishes, thoughtfully prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Their famed Paella Valenciana is a standout, featuring a generous medley of lobster, clams, mussels, scallops, calamari, shrimp, chicken, and chorizo, all simmered with perfectly seasoned, saffron-infused rice that bursts with vibrant, layered tastes. For seafood lovers, the Paella del Mar and Black Rice Paella showcase the bounty of the sea, each bite melting into a symphony of oceanic sweetness and savory depth.

The menu’s seafood specialties shine brilliantly during lunch hours, with luxurious delights such as Lobster Crepes Cannelloni stuffed with lobster meat, draped in creamy sauce and melted mozzarella, and the decadent Txangurro, a blend of shrimp, scallops, and crab meat baked in scallop shells. The salmon dishes, like the Salmon Putanesca with Kalamata olives and roasted tomatoes, offer a perfect balance of freshness and richness, enhanced by creative touches such as truffle oil and bechamel sauce.

But the indulgence doesn’t stop at the main course. The desserts are a sublime way to finish your meal—think silky Coconut Flan, traditional yet decadent Crema Catalana, and the quintessentially Spanish Churros with Chocolate, where crispy, golden fritters meet thick, velvety chocolate, creating an irresistible dessert duo that guests rave about. The fresh fruit options, from strawberries with cream to guava shells filled with cream cheese, offer a lighter, refreshing end to the feast.

Guests often mention the generous portion sizes and attentive service, aspects that elevate the dining experience at Fornos. Martha Vanarelli fondly recalls celebrating a birthday here, noting the exceptional sangria and delicious chicken, alongside complimentary olives and olive oil that set the stage for each meal. George Rosa praises the atmosphere and stellar service, describing his Osso Buco and stuffed flounder as deeply satisfying, complemented by house favorites like the fried potatoes and perfectly seasoned vegetables. Meanwhile, Stanley B highlights the crunchy fried calamari and tender lamb, with his suggestion to try the steak next time—a testament to the restaurant’s diverse and expertly crafted menu.

For those seeking a leisurely dinner paired with exquisite flavors, Fornos of Spain offers an unmatched setting. S R N’s experience perfectly captures this, enjoying shishito peppers and lobster croquettes as starters, followed by a hearty T-bone steak alongside traditional Spanish chips, rice, and steamed vegetables. Their evening culminated in sweet indulgence with caramel flan and curtado – a flawless finish to a top-class meal.

From the welcoming valet parking service applauded by Godwin Adedoyin to the authentic flamenco that fills the air, every detail at Fornos of Spain speaks to quality and passion. Whether you’re a local or visiting, this remarkable restaurant promises a rich taste of Spain that delights the senses and invites you to return again and again.

The best place ⭐ The salad and the churros for default are delicious We went to the restaurant to celebrate my husband’s birthday they charged me a fee for bringing cake but it was worth paying for it because I liked the service too much. We will definitely return, the sangria is delicious The chicken is delicious too. Also We got a large portion for each dish however the paella was not my favorite.

It has been years since I have been at Fornos of Spain. So many changes. All great. Service is still top notch. Atmosphere is amazing. Food will never disappoint. I had the Veal Osso Buco. Amazing! Resting on a bed of mashed potatoes. Delicious! Their perfectly seasoned vegetables and famous fried potatoes for the table. My wife had the stuffed flounder. I finished with a Pastel de Nata (couldn't wait to take a bite) and espresso. She had the Flan and a capochino. If you visit the Ironbound section of Newark you need to visit. Oh... did I mention the cigar lounge?

Incredible food. The portions serving size is very generous. I loved their spanish yellow rice, the seasoning, in my opinion, is to live for. Their fried calamari is very crunchy and rich with the sauce they give. The bread also has a nice unique flavor twist to it, of course the butter is a solid accompanament. I got the lamb, it is tender (~$45), but I prefer the steak since it was more on the juicy/flavorful side. Overall, excellent choice for a fancy dinner together with friends and family. I loved the soothing and relaxing atmosphere. They also do free delicious surprise dessert for birthday celebrations.

I first dined in this lovely Spanish and Portuguese restaurant last year on the thirteenth of July. This was one of my favorite moments of dining in any ethnic and healthy restaurant in my lifetime. I admired the large parking lot and how there would be someone to park a customer's car while having possession of the keys until that person leaves. Lastly, I enjoyed the flamenco music and even my meal was wonderfully prepared. I ate the rabbit stew with many vegetables.

Very good traditional Spanish restaurant. Service, atmosphere, and food were all great! The garlic shrimp were some of the best I’ve ever had….pro tip: save the garlic sauce to dip your other food into! Sangria was delicious, steak was also awesome. And they have Nasto’s sorbets for dessert!

Haven’t been there in a few years. I could literally slap myself for that! What a gem I’ve been missing out on. Forno’s is top billing in our rotation. Everything was supreme including our waiter Aguilar! His suggestions throughout our dinner were spot on. He is exceptional at what he does. Thank you for that Aguilar! If you want a wonderful experience drop what you’re doing and treat yourself to an amazing place, FORNO’S.

This is absolutely one of my favorite Spanish restaurants! I have been here more than three times. The food is always amazing. The fig dessert is delicious, and the complimentary salad is fresh and comes in a huge portion! The main dishes are aromatic and flavorful. I especially love the complimentary Churros served with hot chocolate sauce at the end—they are so good! The Basque cheesecake is also a must-try. Last time, a manager noticed how much I enjoyed the churros and kindly brought us an extra portion. I was so touched and grateful for the gesture. Highly recommend this place for the great food and wonderful service!
